The pilot's badge was donated on January 19, 1935 by the Reich Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force Hermann Göring. The badge was awarded exclusively to flight personnel as radio operators, air gunmen and airborne mechanics who had completed training as a gunner, but no earlier than one year after the start of basic training. In the course of the war, the award regulations were changed. So the badge could already be awarded after 2 months or 5 enemy flights or if you were wounded on enemy flights. On December 12th, 1941 the Luftwaffe pilot badge without a lightning bolt was introduced for air gunner and airborne mechanic. Here the originally existing lightning bolts were subsequently removed. Badges with a black wreath without lightning bolts were awarded towards the end of the war to flight personnel without training but with at least 10 enemy flights or injuries.

Badges were made in non-ferrous metal, aluminum, nickel silver and zinc. The eagle is usually blackened. The eagle of the C,E, Juncker SW piece shown here is also silver-plated. (typical for this manufacturer)

Openwork badge made of silver-plated non-ferrous metal. The eagle stamped separately and riveted to the wreath. At the back a vertical pin. The manufacturer's name stamped on the eagle.

Front:

The edge is formed from a wreath of laurel leaves on the left and oak leaves on the right.
At the bottom of the wreath is the pointed swastika.
An eagle gliding from top right to bottom left with 2 double flashes in its claws has been applied.
The eagle's outspread wings and tail overlay the wreath.
The wing tips protrude a little over the edge.

Back:

Smooth and silver-plated with a vertical pin.
In the upper part of the wreath 2 rivets from the eagle.
