Background info:

After World War I, the Pfaltz was occupied by French troops until 1930 in accordance with the armistice and peace terms, although the affiliation with Bavaria still existed. The 1919 Treaty of Versailles decreed the separation of the western territories of the Pfalz, which were assigned to the newly formed Saar region, which in turn was placed under the administration of the League of Nations. These areas form the Saarpfalz-Kreis in today's Saarland. Separatist movements arose in the Pfalz during the French occupation. These began on November 6, 1923 with revolts in Kaiserslautern, Neustadt and Landau and ended in the storming of the district office in Pirmasens on February 12, 1924. They led to the proclamation of the Autonomous Pfalz by Heinz Orbis, which did not hold. The French troops evacuated the Pfalz in the summer of 1930 after the Young Plan was passed in the Berlin Reichstag.
